Description
ArtsATL.com: Atlanta's source for arts news & reviews. In 2009, the Atlanta Journal Constitution all but eliminated its cultural coverage. Two of its main art critics founded what would become ArtsATL. They knew that without a reliable criticism and news resource Atlanta’s creative community would be jeopardized. They believed that the public dissemination of thoughtful art criticism is a key component of a vibrant city and saw that shrinking arts coverage in traditional media would be a severe loss, not only because the press is often arts institutions’ only link to its potential participants, but also because it documents our cultural history. Arts coverage and criticism plays an important role in acting as a catalyst for increasing public awareness of the arts and the value of culture to the community, as well as assisting in the development of a thriving creative sector. The publication was established as a resource, which covers the diverse cultural offerings of Atlanta: visual arts, design, theater, books, film, music, and dance.
ArtsATL has been recognized by numerous publications over the past six years for its role as a resource about Atlanta's arts and culture, including Creative Loafing's reader's choice awards (2013-2015) and mentions from The New Yorker, Art Journal, New York Times, WABE, Atlanta Magazine, and others. Founder Catherine Fox received the 2013 Community Impact Administrator Arts Award from the Emory College Center for Creativity and Arts.
